Queen's Gambit

THE  QUEEN'S GAMBIT

BY ELIZABETH FREMANTLE

Katherine Parr, is a woman recently widowed for the second time at the age of thirty one.Katherine is recalled to court and returns there reluctantly, where she unexpectedly falls in love and begins a passionate affair with the charming and handsome Thomas Seymour. But her presence at court has attracted the attentions of Henry Tudor who Captivated by her honesty and intelligence begins courting her. Henry Tudors becomes enamored with Katherine and sends Thomas Seymour on a on a diplomatic mission to the Netherlands.Henry proposes to Katherine and she becomes Henry's sixth wife.
Henry is an obese, old, diseased king prone to jealousy and violent out bursts. Henry is a man who loves deeply but briefly and hates unfailingly. Katherine is courageous and passionate about religious reform, but knows the dangerous path she threads, she must draw upon all her instincts and intellect to navigate the treachery of the court if she is to survive being Henry's queen. This books tense narrative makes it a riveting read. History recounts the lives of Henry and Katherine
and we know their stories conclusion, but the feeling of tension underlying the events, reminding us that it could have ended so differently.
This book is the first book I've read by Elizabeth Fremantle and I was presently surprised at how skillfully written it was, she is definitely an author that I would definitely recommend to fellow readers.
